Real businesses, real scans, and what changed.

CAD Wing, defence
AI said they were a South Korean company. 72 hours after the fixes, it didn't.
AI was describing CAD Wing as South Korean and their product as software that didn't exist. We traced where those answers came from and gave them a clear plan. Within 72 hours of the changes going live, both mistakes were gone and AI was citing CAD Wing's own website.
"Most companies have no idea what AI is telling their buyers. We didn't either. That was the gap."
Lee Matthews
Director, CAD Wing Training and Advisory

Alfi, Italian restaurant
The scan showed where AI was missing them, including dining and lunch searches. Since then, the listings that shape those answers have been claimed and updated.
"We'd been putting content out there and assuming it was working. The scan showed us exactly where it wasn't and why, down to specific page titles and platforms I hadn't thought to look at."
Ben
Owner, Alfi

Players Social, Spitalfields bar
The sitemap has been fixed and the TripAdvisor and DesignMyNight listings have been claimed and updated, so AI has the right information to draw on.
"If the world of SEO left people feeling confused, AI is a whole other level. Gander Brand manages to make it seem not overwhelming, which is a comfort to business owners."
Alba Harden
Brand Manager, Alfi and Players Social
What we see across 100 scanned companies
About half of the 50 NZ and Australian scale-ups we scanned weren't mentioned at all when AI was asked about their sector.
AI invents things. We've seen made-up reviews and made-up founders.
AI mixes companies up. We've seen businesses confused with clothing brands, cities, birds and other companies that share their name.
The APAC 50
Our quarterly benchmark of the 50 fastest-growing VC-backed tech companies across New Zealand and Australia, scanned the way candidates research an employer.
Tech companies only. Every one gets the same prompts, run across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, asked the way a candidate asks: what's it like to work there, who founded it, would it be a good move. We can't name who's in it yet, but this is what the scan found about their talent signal.
Distinct territory
No company in the index owns a distinct story in AI's answers. The category is wide open.
No employer visibility
Had no unprompted employer visibility at all. Ask what it's like to work there and AI comes up empty.
Best score
The highest score across all 50. Nobody came close to a strong result.
From the scan
The wrong founders
For one New Zealand company scaling into the US, AI named four academics from a UK university archive as its founders, instead of the two people who actually built it.
Locked out of the answer
Several of the 50 actively block AI crawlers on their own websites. The models fill the silence with third-party pages the companies don't control.
A silent employer voice
For several of the 50, the richest material about working there, founder stories, culture, values, is locked inside videos and webinars no model can read. Every job listing carries the same two-sentence blurb, so AI has nothing real to say about the people behind the work.
